Do Your Children Attend a School That Has Visitor Management?

Many of you have school age children attending K-12 schools. We'd like to know if your children's schools are using a professional visitor management system such as EasyLobby SVM™ to protect the school from predators and unwanted visitors.

If they don't have such a system in place, let us know. Contact us today and we'll inform your school that a solution such as EasyLobby will help secure the school from undesirable visitors and help them manage who is entering school facilities.

As an example, the Union Gap School District in Union Gap, Washington, recently reported how they are protecting their students from possible predators. They have improved their visitor management security using EasyLobby.

One of the reasons the school visitor software was installed was to alert lobby attendants of any visitors who are on the National Sex Offender Database. According to the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs there are 7 sex offenders living within 2 miles of the school.

"If it (EasyLobby Visitor Management) protects one child it's well worth the money that we spent on it," says Kurt Hilyard, Union Gap School District Superintendent.

Read an article and watch a video from TV station KIMA TV about this EasyLobby Secure Visitor Management system at the Union Gap School District.

And let us know if your children's school needs visitor management from EasyLobby.

EasyLobby to Participate in the Intelligent Security Symposium presented by Schneider Electric

Schneider Electric Symposium

EasyLobby will be participating in an important partner event on November 5, 2009 in New York City - The Intelligent Security Symposium presented by Schneider Electric (formerly TAC).

You should plan to attend this event if you are a security manager or consultant, a property or facilities manager responsible for security solutions in your organization, or you simply want to learn more about new security solutions and trends.

EasyLobby will be a Gold Sponsor of the event. We'll be highlighting the access control integration between our visitor management system and Schneider Electric's access control system, Andover Continuum. This integration allows you to provide security visitor badges to visitors entering a facility, permitting them to access doors controlled by the Schneider Electric access system.

The keynote speaker at the event is Tom Ridge, first Secretary of Homeland Security.

Visit the website of the Intelligent Security Symposium for more information and to register to attend. The event is complimentary and those who register will receive a signed copy of "The Test of Our Times: America under Siege... and How We Can Be Safe Again" by Tom Ridge with Lary Bloom.

Hope to see you in NYC on November 5!

Security Dealer & Integrator EasyLobby bylines Article in Security Dealer & Integrator

"Integrating Access Control with Visitor Management" is the title of an article bylined by EasyLobby Director of Marketing John Murzycki in the November issue of Security Dealer & Integrator.

"An accepted process of integrating visitor management with access control should be a one-step process, doing away with the need to send people to the security office for access credentials."

Read the complete article.

Program "Alerts" in SVM to Notify You about Expired Visitor Badges

One of the useful features of the EasyLobby system is its alert functions. These alerts can be set for a number of different parameters that exceed your accepted norm.

One of the alerts that you can use is an expired badge alert. This alert lets you monitor whether the longer-than-expected stay of a visitor is warranted or not.

To learn more about how this alert can be used in EasyLobby SVM and how to program it, read our blog on this subject.

Organizations that practice good visitor security will know exactly who is in their facility at all times, what their purpose is, and whether their stay has extended beyond the time that was expected.

Contact us if you need additional information on setting alerts in your EasyLobby system.

Tech Tip:
How to Back-Up Your EasyLobby Database

Some organizations require that visitor log data be kept for 7 years. This means that your EasyLobby database log needs to be backed up often and that data stored in a more permanent medium like a CD, DVD or tape backup, as well as keeping it in a fireproof safe or an offline backup service.

We often receive customer calls about how they should back up their data on a schedule to make them more secure and to protect their visitor log data in case of computer or disk failure.

If your organization has a Database Administrator, they can take care if it for you. But what if you are the Administrator and responsible for it.

Here's how to back up your EasyLobby Visitor log. You can do it as frequently as makes you feel secure.

1.  Open EasyLobby SVM and log in as an Enterprise Administrator operator.
2.  Select  File | Visitor Log | Backup from the top menu.  Then choose a date range and click OK.
3.  Choose a safe Location for the backup '.vbk' file.  Usually a good place would be a secure external data store on a network drive or external disk.

And here's what is happening behind the scenes when you do this:

·  The Backup Easylobby Visitor Log is being saved in one .vbk file which you can open later as needed.

One final note for Microsoft Access fans familiar with the .mdb format: the .vbk format in the preceding description is actually the same as the .evm format that EasyLobby uses, which is in turn the same format as the Microsoft Access .mdb format. So if you are an Access programmer, you might be able to use this tip to your advantage when dealing with EasyLobby visitor logs.

If you would like more assistance backing up your EasyLobby log files, contact our tech support team.
